When Ohio National came into the Disability Insurance market they were a welcomed option. Their premiums were consistently low and the product has always been rather competitive. Although the underwriting has been “strict” and intolerant, they were a good fit for someone in great health.
With rating downgrades and rebranding attempts (Constellation Insurance) this was inevitable. As of May 1, 2023 Ohio National is no longer offering individual disability insurance.
Here is the correspondence sent to agents:
Ohio National Life Assurance Corporation (ONLAC) will discontinue the sale of its individual disability income (DI) insurance products effective May 1, 2023.
Applications, including requests for reissues and additional coverages or riders, must be dated and received by the close of business on April 30, 2023. All policies must be paid for and delivered — with premium received at the home office and all requirements completed — by the delivery expiry period stated in the delivery instructions or the close of business on July 31, 2023, whichever comes first.
Contractually-permitted changes will continue to be honored according to the policy contract as long as it remains in force.
